Hungary approx. 10 million; Budapest approx. 1.8 million.

Language spoken:
Hungarian. English is widely understood and spoken in Budapest in shops, restaurants, hotels, by taxi drivers etc.

Climate:
Moderately dry continental climate. Cold winters and warm/hot summers (during the Summer make sure to bring sunglasses and plenty of sun protection lotion).

Time Zone:
GMT +1 - One hour ahead of Irish time.

Currency:
HUF - Hungarian Forint - approx. exchange rate €1 = HUF 370.

Driving in Hungary:
On the right hand side of the road. Speed limits: In the city 50 km/h, on the main roads 90 km/h and on the motorways 130 km/h. Alcohol limit for driving is ZERO percent!

Visas & passports:
Visa is not needed for Irish citizens to enter Hungary. Valid passport or passport card is needed for travelling to Hungary.
